Utoro / Shiretoko

Known as one of the last areas of pristine wilderness in Japan, Shiretoko Peninsula is located on the northeastern coast of Hokkaido and was recently added as a world heritage site in 2005. Due to its seaside location with cliffs rising more than 100m out of the Sea of Okhotsk in many areas, waterfalls and marine bird life are in abundance with sea eagles and cormorants  being among the most viewed.

Utoro is located on the west coast of the Shiretoko Peninsula and is well known as a hot spring resort town with a renage of accommodation available including Japanese Inns and Hotels. This is another area where you can find some great hot spring resorts and sample the delicious array of seafood available.
